The Challenge
Boden required a sustainable dispatch packaging solution that aligned with its environmental goals while meeting the operational demands of high-volume e-commerce fulfilment.
The priority was to reduce reliance on virgin plastic, eliminate packaging waste sent to landfill, and create full transparency of their packaging waste. At the same time, the packaging needed to perform reliably in transit and integrate seamlessly into existing warehouse operations.
Selecting the right material was critical. Boden requested a recycled packaging solution that reduced environmental impact across the full lifecycle, not just at end of life, while remaining durable, efficient and fully recyclable. Confidence in performance, recyclability and traceability was essential to support long-term circular packaging goals.
What we did
Duo worked with Boden to implement a closed loop polythene recycling solution, providing full visibility and control over how packaging waste is collected and recycled in the UK.
We designed a polythene dispatch bags range made using a minimum of 80% recycled polythene and recyclable at end of life. This ensured any post-consumer plastic packaging returned to their fulfilment site was collected and recycled in the UK.
Alongside supply, Duo provided:
- Expertise in sustainability reporting and evolving packaging legislation
- A reliable, high-quality packaging solution suitable for e‑commerce fulfilment
This allowed Boden to confidently use polythene as part of a wider sustainable packaging mix, supported by data, traceability and continuous improvement.
The Results:
The solution has delivered measurable progress towards Boden’s objectives over the period January 2023 to December 2025:
- 151 tonnes of polythene packaging recycled through closed loop recycling
- The volume of waste recycled equates to approximately 875,000 new dispatch bags
- 95% of Boden’s total packaging (by weight) is made from recycled content
